- Should college/University given free book to student?
Chien from SBS TARC, Advanced
Diploma Year 1
- He disagreed. It is unfair to the suppliers unless there is competition. It also depends on the University’s policy on whether to subsidize them or not. If the printing costs are subsidized, student may be happy about it but it may lessen the competitive advantage of other suppliers. There are always two sides to a coin hence it depends on which perspective you are looking from.
- He agreed if we were to compare Malaysia with other nations such as Australia, not only do they provide free education for primary and secondary level but also for tertiary level. As there are still many rural areas around Malaysia where families are not wealthy enough to afford books, hence the government should at least provide free books or subsidize it.

- He agreed. If each subjecthas at least one assignment then the printing cost for a school of students to complete study can approximately buy a house. No need print, just past up soft copy as lecturers also have no space to keep our assignment hard copy. While, soft copy is the prove of high technology.

Tertiary school and above or mostly the text books or reference books are written oversea and with copyright go a huge amount of money needed for each students for only books. However library has already provided the book needed for further knowledge or students can borrow. The study materials had summarized by lecturers and uploaded at CEL.

their notes / tutorials in order to ease their studies and free books provided
by college / university would be able to alleviate some student’s financial
problem.
